Join Tasha Simms and Marc Caron as they speak with filmmaker, impact producer, community organizer and extreme sports athlete, Tamo Campos.
The Klabona Keepers is an intimate portrait of the dynamic Indigenous community that succeeded in protecting the Sacred Headwaters, known as the Klabona, from industrial activities. Spanning 15 years of matriarch-led resistance, a small group of determined elders in the village of Iskut heal from the wounds of colonization to push back against law enforcement, government, and some of the world’s largest multinational companies.
Nestled between scenes of stand-offs and blockades, land defenders reflect on how their history of forced displacement, residential schools, and trauma strengthened their resolve to protect the very land that was so essential to their healing journey.
My name is Rhoda Quock. I’m from the Wolf Clan. My parents are Jenny Quock and Robert Quock. I live in Iskut, in Tahltan Territory. I was born on April 29, 1971 in Terrace, B.C. and was raised in Iskut. I’m the youngest of six siblings. We were taught to go out on the land to camp every summer. My husband is Peter Jakesta. We have four kids and two grandsons. I’m a spokesperson and organizer for the Klabona Keepers. I am also the producer and main advisor of The Klabona Keepers Film (2022).
My name is John Nole. I’m from the Wolf Clan. My parents are Loveman and Sarah Nole. I was born on June 24, 1962 and was raised in Iskut. I love our territory and being on the land. When I was younger, I worked as a guide for outfitters and have traveled many places in our territory. I also have spent time trapping in the winters. I was one of the founding members of the Klabona Keepers and spent the last 15 years fighting for our Sacred Headwaters. It is the lifeblood of our people and I fight for it for my daughter and grandson and those that come after them. I currently work for Tahltan fisheries and am an elected Iskut Band Councillor.
