Alfred DePew has led journal workshops throughout the United States and Canada over the past 25 years. A theatre publicist, advertising copywriter, social worker, painter, and migrant cultural worker, DePew taught at the universities of Vermont and New Hampshire, the Maine College of Art, Salt Center for Documentary Studies, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and through the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance.
He has been awarded fellowships from the Maine Arts Commission, the Wurlitzer Foundation, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. His first collection of stories, The Melancholy of Departure, won a Flannery O’Connor Award and will appear in paperback in the spring of 2013 (University of Georgia Press).
