Susan Davidson, of Glorious Organics Co-op in Aldergrove, has been an organic farmer since 1985. She is an active participant of BCSeeds, a project of Farm Folk/City Folk, whose purpose is to “cultivate a local sustainable food system”. She aspires to make conscious and conscientious choices to feed herself and others and to live in ways that respect the earth, the farmers and the co-inhabitants of this beautiful, finite planet.
Glorious Organics Co-op is a cooperatively owned and run organic farming collective whose home is on Fraser Common Farm Co-op in Aldergrove. Initially formed as Glorious Garnish and Seasonal Salad Company Ltd in 1986, it became an official workers co-op in 2006, changing our name to Glorious Organics Co-op. We produce over thirty varieties of salad greens as well as peas, beans, potatoes, carrots, beets, onions, garlic, fennel, fruits, herbs, flowers and much more! We sell directly to restaurants, farmers markets (under the name Organic Farm Connection), and through our CSA program.
FarmFolk CityFolk is a Vancouver-based member-based not for profit society cultivating a local, sustainable food system in British Columbia. Our projects provide access to and protection of farmland; supporting local farmers, seed growers and producers; and engaging communities in the celebration of local, seasonal, and sustainable food.
BCSeeds Gathering, Nov 9-11, 2012
FarmFolk CityFolk – is organizing a provincial gathering of seed leaders as part of our BCSeeds project. Small- scale seed growers, community leaders, seed networks and young urban farmers from across BC will bring their seeds to clean, test a variety of cleaning equipment, learn, share experiences and form a BCSeeds producer cooperative. We will decide how to improve the quality and quantity of locally grown seed and strategize how to protect our seed from GMO contamination.
BCSeeds is informed and directed by a small group of organic seed growers who have been working together for 8 years to increase locally grown seed for food production in British Columbia. BCSeeds has supported the development of local seed collectives and networks, held workshops, published resources and produced videos. BCSeeds is working with USC Canada and Seeds of Diversity to develop a national seed program that will assure Canadians a supply of locally adapted, organically and ecologically grown seed. BC Seeds is under the FarmFolk CityFolk’s Farm Program.
