Velcrow Ripper is a Genie Award winning filmmaker, writer, and sound designer who’s powerful, cinematic documentaries deal with the central issues of our times. His over 30 films include the multi award winning feature documentary Bones of the Forest (1996) about elders and the struggle to save the ancient forests; Golden Gate Award Winning Open Season (1998), about hunters and the activists who “hunt the hunters”; and In The Company of Fear (1999), about non-violent resistance to the dirty war in Colombia.  Velcrow is the acclaimed sound designer of such films as Eve and the Firehorse (Best sound, Leo awards) The Corporation (Best Sound, Leos) and A Place Called Chiapas (Best Sound Hot Docs/Leos).

His critically acclaimed feature documentary, ScaredSacred (2004) has played to audiences around the globe, and is the winner of nine major awards, including the Special Jury Prize at the Toronto International Film Festival, a Hugo Award, and the 2006 Genie Award for Best Documentary.  ScaredSacred is currently in the midst of a highly successful release in Canada by Mongrel Media, in the U.S. by Zeitgeist Films, and in Australia and New Zealand by Gil Scrine Films.

Darcy Riddell lives in Vancouver British Columbia, and works as a Program Consultant for the Hollyhock Leadership Institute (www.HollyhockLeadership.org) – a social change focused training and consulting organization that weaves contemplative practices and leadership development with strategic convening. Darcy develops and facilitates programs on personal development, campaign strategy, and capacity-building for environmental and social change organizations.

Her life passion is to work at the cross-roads of spirituality and social change, and support others to do so with increasing depth and wisdom. She has designed and delivered several conferences and intensive leadership trainings per year for the last 5 years, bringing change agents from business, philanthropy, community groups, First Nations, and environmental organizations together to develop collaborative strategies to address deep-rooted social problems. Her current clients include VANOC: 2010 Olympic Games, where she is facilitating dialogue between Environmental NGOs and the Games Sustainability Group, and Canada’s favorite outdoor giant, Mountain Equipment Co-op to launch a wilderness advocacy program for their 2 million members in partnership with the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society. Darcy has an MA in Philosophy, Cosmology and Consciousness from the California Institute of Integral Studies (www.ciis.edu/pcc/ ), where she researched integral leadership models and studied whole-systems change.

During this time, she as one of the first facilitators of Spirit-in-Action’s Circles of Change program (www.Spiritinaction.net ). In the last 10 years, Darcy’s work has included various campaign, strategic communications and capacity-building roles in the decade long campaign to protect the Great Bear Rainforest, as a forest campaigner with the Sierra Club and with ForestEthics. She is currently a graduate advisor at Prescott College, Arizona, in their Environmental Studies M.A. program. Darcy is a co-founder of Drishti: Centre for Integral Ecology (www.drishti.ca ), and she serves on the board of PLAN Institute.
