The moon, to whom wolves howl and poets serenade. The moon, followed by the tides -oceanic, menstrual and seasonal. The moon under which a heart can be made new by love, broken and made new again.
“The Moondrops”, Michelle Dumond’s newest release, are a compilation of poems, songs, and mantras- each an intense drop of emotion; a slice of feeling within the spectrum of human relationship. Paralleling the lunar phases, “The Moondrops” explore poignant cycles of death and rebirth- the territory we traverse under the moon’s influence.
DISC A The Moondrops
Skilled in a medley of folk, gypsy-jazz, pop and classical styles, Michelle has put together an earthy “art” album that plays the heart-strings and comes across as a coherent musical statement. Instrumentation on this disc includes voice, cello, piano, guitar, erhu and percussion.
Melody, lyrical depth and harmony thread each tune, weaving the net which, from the ether, catches your ear… and heart!
DISC B the Moondrops Mantra
With such notable musicians as Pepe Danza (Udu, Moyo, Bansuri, Hang), James Hamilton (Sitar) and Edison Zhao (Erhu), “The Moondrops Mantra” has an ambient world music flavour and is comprised of both Sanskrit mantras and English chants. A soothing ambient and meditative mood pervades this second disc.
Looking at life with humour and pathos, Michelle says:
“Music is like compost, but instead of carrot peelings, it’s a whole life mixed in; every experience goes into the pot, stirred with instrumental skills picked up along the way. These songs, poems and mantra melodies coalesced from vast tracks of life experience. They are poignant and deeply felt. They are flowers growing from the soil of our lives.”
