Jerry DesVoignes is a singer, composer, performer, Throat Singer, sound healer and educator, dedicated to Building Community through Sound and Voice.  He sang in choirs from the age of 6 years and his first professional gig was at the young age of 17 in a Rock Band.  Jerry has an extensive background in contemporary music & ancient singing styles, and has performed and composed music in Rock, Country, Jazz, Jazz Fusion, Progressive Rock, Gospel, R&B, Musical, World Music, Latin and Native American, as well as composed songs in different languages and vocables (non-language sounds)

Jerry (Madhava) is a student of Baba Hari Dass for 30 years, a silent Yogi originally for Hardwar. He Worked hand in hand with Babaji in setting up these ancient Vedic rituals and became the main Kirtan leader for Babaji and Ashtanga Yoga retreats.

For over  25 years Jerry  has experience in the various aspects of Indian Ragas, Kirtan(devotional singing), and Vedic chants as well as having taught various forms of Yoga. As a singer and composer, he enjoys the traditional forms of these ancient pieces while also offering his own original musical interpretation and compositions. He has lead Kirtan for thousands of people and brought the knowledge and wisdom of the voice and the power of mantra to hundreds in workshops and personal sessions.

Based in Vancouver Canada, Jerry has spent the past 15 years mastering several styles of Throat Singing or Harmonic Chant, such Tibetan and Tuvan and teaching it to hundreds and there by forming the One Voice Harmonic Choir. His interest in Harmonic Singing comes directly from becoming brain injured after being hit by a car, discovering the healing qualities therein.  Having the opportunity to expand on his knowledge by spending some time with Steve Sklar (http://www.khoomei.com/) and Huun Hurr Tu, throat singers from Tuva. For Jerry all music is a playful expression of  consciousness and joy through his voice.

As a teacher of Voice and Ancient Sound, he offers sound healing sessions,  gives personal lessons and offers the Wisdom of the Voice workshops to teach people in the art of Throat Singing demonstrating  how each individual carries unique qualities to thier Voice. Jerry gives Voice Empowerment workshop, for developing personal power, clarity and self-expression through your voice. Bhakti  – Yoga of Sound workshops, that explore the sound and devotional qualities of Yoga as one of the 8 limbs of Ashtanga Yoga.

Jerry has produced several original recordings His most recent CDs entitled “Healing Voices” and  “Song of The Labyrinth” with the One Voice Harmonic Choir & Ensemble.  “Gayatri of Gaia” (meditation DVD)  an original version of the ancient Gayatri Mantra with inspiring nature footage was recently nominated for Best Music Video at this years- 2006 Rosie’s – Motion Picture Association Awards.
