In this episode we speak with Abheeru, the Creator of Just Dance, right here in Vancouver. Just Dance is Celebrating 25 years of showcasing local and world class talents while shaping the Global Fusion community of Vancouver, by providing a safe and alcohol free environment to partake in an experience that deepens ones connection to music and dance.  By  sharing our connection to World Beat, we expand our ability to learn and grow personally and socially.

Just Dance are weekly, multi generational, free form dance events. They are an alternative and friendly environment for community and all lovers of music and dance.

There are two distinct events at”Just Dance”. Three Fridays a month JD offers an open dance floor for those looking for a good time and to socialize. “Journeys“, are presented one Saturday a month, and are intentional dance events that build on the transformational power of music and dance.

Just Dance founder, Abheeru was inspired to create these events to offer a positive and rewarding dance experience. It has since touched many hearts, moved bodies, changed lives and provided the community with a steadfast place to gather.

ABOUT THE MUSIC

Just Dance began in 1993 when most popular music was often formulaic and ‘localized`. Since then Global Fusion and World Beat have become more commonplace in popular culture. Just Dance has for over 20 years been offering an alternative for music lovers and artists seeking to expand their horizons.

On our dance floor, you will hear ultra creative blends and fusions of Tribal, World Beat, indigenous and sonic tones that inspire the body to move and flow in contact, improv and intentional dance moves; individually or partnered. At each event, for 3 to 4 hours, music will vary in waves of tempo, energy and tone and allow the dancer to fully enjoy an evening of organica and electronica in perfect fusion. Genres, styles, ethnicities blend seamlessly in a truly unique smorgasbord, all for your dancing delight.

With the onset of electronic tools for remixing, the ability for Just Dance to merge the world of music and dance has become easier. Just Dance has become a new music forum that encourages DJs and live bands to search and offer music that constantly re-invents itself.

About Abheeru

Originally from Quebec City, Abheeru discovered World Music first hand during his many travels to over 40 countries. After settling in Vancouver, he was inspired by the community and  environment, and created Just Dance.

Since then, he has cultivated a profound and rapturous relationship to Global Fusion music, DJing, community service and dancing. He has organized, promoted and DJ’d more than 600 events for over 55,000 dancers, all in the spirit of service as he has always wanted for JD to donate all of its proceeds to local charities and nonprofit groups. Despite many changes and challenges over the last two decades, he continues to inspire and promote new ideas and musical concepts to the Vancouver community.

As a DJ, Abheeru is known for tapping into an extensive palette of genres and styles from far-reaching locations around the world. His main passion is to infuse and mix a wide-range of musical organic elements and instruments from many diverse cultures and to blend those with delectable modern dance beats. The results are exquisitely creative dance sets that will keep your dancing soul and shoes happy.
