A film by Ananda More
Exploring the myths and facts of homeopathic medicine.
Canadian Filmmaker and homeopathic practitioner, Ananda More crisscrosses the world to meet with scientists, practitioners, and patients to learn whether homeopathy is science-based or is an elaborate placebo that cons millions and endangers lives?
Homeopathy is a natural form of medicine used by over 200 million people worldwide to treat both acute and chronic conditions. It is based on the principle of ‘like cures like’. In other words, a substance taken in small amounts will cure the same symptoms it causes if taken in large amounts.
WHAT IS HOMEOPATHY?
The holistic nature of homeopathy means each person is treated as a unique individual and their body, mind, spirit and emotions are all considered in the management and prevention of disease.
Taking all these factors into account a homeopath will select the most appropriate medicine based on the individual’s specific symptoms and
personal level of health to stimulate their own healing ability.
Homeopathic medicines are safe to use as they rarely cause side-effects. When used appropriately under the guidance of a qualified homeopath they can be taken by people of all ages, including babies, children and pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Homeopathy was incredibly successful in the treatment of Spanish Flu in 1918. Homeopaths had a VERY low mortality rate relative to allopathic treatment of the flu then and now.

INDIA: DID YOU KNOW:
* India has been using homeopathy to control epidemics for over two decades from Japanese Encepha. The Indian government has announced that it is using homeopathic arsenicum to prevent Corona. In India, homeopathy is widely available, with 100 million people using it as their ONLY form of medicine for a wide array of diseases. India has a Ministry of Health dedicated to managing natural medicine medicine (Ministry of AYUSH) of which Homeopathy is one of the main modalities. In India homeopathy is widely available, with 100 million people using it as their only form of medicine for a wide array of diseases. CUBA:
*Cuba used homeopathy to stop epidemics beginning in 2007 with a massive campaign to stop a deadly epidemic of a tropical disease called leptospirosis. Since then they used homeopathy to combat flu, cholera, conjunctivitis and other epidemics. In following years Cuba offered their services to help control other epidemics around the world using homeopathy but were stopped from doing so by the WHO. The Cubans have treated epidemics of Hep A, Conjunctivitis, Cholera, and Leptospirosis with homeopathy. They also offered to support other countries with homeopathy and Ebola.
TARZANIA:
*In Tanzania homeopathy has been incorporated into hospital programs in the treatment of HIV and AIDS. They have found that homeopathy extends the time a patient can stay on HIV/AIDS medications (antiretrovirals), and increases their effectiveness.
HONG KONG:
*The Hong Kong Homeopathatic Association reports that appropriate remedies are Gelsemium, Bryonia and Eupatorium for Corona which are easily accessible through pharmacies throughout the country.

PROMISE OR PLACEBO?
Homeopathic medicine is one of the most widely used forms of alternative medicine on the planet but, despite its popularity, it has come under a great deal of scrutiny in recent years and is now a favorite target for skeptics and debunkers. The controversy surrounding homeopathic medicine is founded in the belief that something so highly diluted cannot work without violating the laws of chemistry. Magic Pills challenges viewers to decide for themselves by presenting new scientific discoveries, and real world successes that challenge these assumptions.
Many medical journals refuse to publish positive studies due to systemic bias, and the media can distort the truth by omitting information. The stakes are immense, if homeopathy works it could transform the medical system, and provide safe, affordable, and effective medicine. Is the truth being buried?
Filmmaker and homeopath Ananda More, HOM, DHMHS investigates multiple media campaigns against homeopathy, propelling her to travel the world and uncover whether homeopathy is truly science-based and effective or a mere placebo that endangers lives.
When meeting with scientists, skeptics, practitioners and patients, Ananda unravels the high drama and intrigue that envelops homeopathy today. Current science postulates that it can’t work because we can’t prove how it works. Similarly, in the past science could observe gravity and electricity before it could explain it. However, homeopathy is not granted the same latitudes or research, and instead is the target of attacks, which disregards ever-growing volumes of compelling data.
In her travels, Ananda sees how homeopathy is being used to treat cancer in India, support the use of antiretroviral medication for HIV/AIDS in Africa and prevent common epidemics in Cuba. She also visits and interviews scientists at university laboratories, where cutting edge experiments prove once again that maybe science can’t always explain how nature works. However, one thing becomes certain as intrepid professionals expose their work: homeopathy may offer a deep acting and gentle alternative in contrast to conventional medicine, which often focuses on toxic treatments that can have irreversible or life threatening side effects. With homeopathy-friendly Switzerland as the final stop, Ananda reveals how ultimately, those most affected by policies that support prolonged treatment and subsequent profits are the people themselves, who are now being denied accurate information about their health choices
“Homeopathy is seriously threatened globally and urgently threatened in the USA. I hope this film can make an impact and continue to allow the public access to this life saving medicine.”

ABOUT THE FILM:
Journey with Ananda to Tanzania, where for the past 25 years a husband-and-wife duo of homeopathic doctors are using their skills to help thousands of HIV/AIDS patients in the most remote regions of the country. To Cuba, where she was the only person from outside the country given permission to tell the story of how homeopathic medicine given to millions of people stopped an epidemic in just a few weeks. To Kolkata, India, where the Banerji Clinic is having unparalleled success treating otherwise incurable brain tumors and other forms of cancer. To Mumbai, India where an MIT trained chemical engineer has discovered nanoparticles in the most dilute medicines. And finally to Switzerland, where where a government-commissioned study led to by the public health-insurance program covering homeopathy.

ABOUT ANANDA MORE:
Ananda began as a profound skeptic of homeopathy That is, until a profoundly transformational experience while backpacking through India. After an initial encounter, where she felt dramatic relief from homeopathic pellets while dealing with a case of severe Delhi Belly, Ananda decided to visit an actual homeopath, for a proper consultation. The apparently miraculous cure she experienced after life long depression changed her trajectory in life. She always knew that she wanted to dedicate her life to helping others, and instead of going to law school she decided to pursue homeopathy as a career.
Ananda graduated from the Ontario College of Homeopathic Medicine in 2005, went on to study around the world with some of the most highly recognized homeopaths, and became co-owner of Riverdale Homeopathy, a clinic, bookstore, dispensary and general hub for everything homeopathic in North America. She has served on the council for the homeopathic regulatory body of Ontario as well as the board of the Ontario Homeopathic Association.
Ananda lives in Toronto, Canada with her husband and daughter and has a successful homeopathic practice.
Lining up at a clinic in India
Eight years ago I was at a personal crossroad, frustrated with the portrayal of homeopathy in the media but deep down questioning myself if homeopathy’s effectiveness was an elaborate placebo effect. I decided to join my two passions, storytelling and homeopathy, to crisscross the world looking to discuss these issues with skeptics, scientists, practitioners and patients. Until then, the only mainstream media available were television specials, news articles and radio, all equally intent on giving a negative, biased perspective on homeopathy.
Numerous clinical trials and studies were misrepresented or concealed altogether. The inaccurate narrative struck me not only dishonest but dangerous for the future of medicine, science and academic freedom.
While my 12 years of experience in homeopathy gave me unique access to the scientific community and highly secretive operation in Cuba, my extensive experience in theatre writing and directing, prepared me to seize the moment wherever we were.
From a hut in a Maasai village to a high-tech laboratory in India, from talking to high profile experts to sharing a candid moment with debilitated patients, my life’s path seemed to have prepared me to be fully present and of service in each of those moments. Even my own past of doubt and skepticism served as a counterbalancing force to remain objective with the findings while understanding and respectful of skeptics.
It’s my hope that the confluence of my skills and background help bring a more honest portrayal of homeopathy to a larger audience. And in doing so, broaden the discussion of what’s possible: a more holistic, safer, patient focused system of health care.
