Randy Jones of Mythic Nature: The Olduvai Expedition
Wednesday August 31st 6:00-7:00pm

Randy Jones is a community leader and an advocate for the revival of the conversation between the modern world and the wisdom of Indigenous cultures. Sorrowed by the very loss of the wild in modernity, Randy has dedicated much of his life to re-establishing an alliance between the two. Over the last 15 years, Randy has embarked on an indigenous training which has included dynamic studies in mythology, ritual, rhythm, dance and storytelling. He has trained and worked with such renowned teachers as Michael Meade, Daniel Deardorff, Malidoma Some, Sobonfu Some, Francis Weller, Steven Jenkinson, Martin Prechtel, Marion Woodman and Robert Bly. Randy is skilled in facilitating what has become an increasingly necessary discourse between humans, nature and the spirit world. A veritable “Urban Shaman,” he has guided individuals and communities in Vancouver through powerful Initiation and Grief Release Rituals that have sparked an experiential integration of mythological wisdom in those who have participated. In a time where the very idea of the Indigenous is on the verge of being lost, Randy applies his knowledge to what he feels is his particular duty of ‘calling forth voices’ and awakening the ‘Wild Genius’ in us all. From the Dagara People (Burkina Fasso, West Africa) comes an extraordinary Medicine Wheel of mostly intact indigenous knowledge and a living tradition of healing rituals. It is based on community work, music, dance, embodiment, a sophisticated imagining of the spirit world, a deep understanding of psychology and initiation, and a cosmology of five elements. On September 15, 2011, we will embark on a year-long journey through the knowledge traditions of the Indigenous mind, heart and soul. The Olduvai Expedition will be a sincere attempt to pass through the ancient gateways of indigenous wisdom, offering practical skills for sustained healing through a discovery of our innate potential or “Wild Genius.”
