Join Tasha Simms and Marc L Caron as we discuss “How to Find Your Voice, Speak Your Truth and Listen Deeply” with author  Oren Jay sofer Oren about his new book Say What You Mean: A Mindful Approach to Nonviolent Communication, a practical guidebook for having more effective, satisfying conversations. Since the early 2000s, Oren has had a deep interest in the relationship between contemplative practice and communication. A graduate of the BayNVC North American Leadership Training, he has taught classes and workshops in Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication (NVC) nationally since 2006.

How to Find Your Voice, Speak Your Truth and Listen Deeply

We spend so much of our lives talking to each other, but how much are we simply running on automatic—relying on old habits and hoping for the best? Are we able to truly hear others and speak our mind in a clear and kind way, without needing to get defensive or go on the attack?

The techniques in Say What You Mean will help you to:

  • Feel confident during conversation
  • Stay focused on what really matters in an interaction
  • Listen for the authentic concerns behind what others say
  • Reduce anxiety before and during difficult conversations
  • Find nourishment in day-to-day interactions

About Oren

Oren has practiced meditation in the Theravada Buddhist tradition since 1997, beginning his studies in Bodh Gaya, India with Anagarika Munindra and Godwin Samararatne. He is a long-time student of Joseph Goldstein, Michele McDonald, and Ajahn Sucitto, and a graduate of the IMS – Spirit Rock Vipasanna Teacher Training. Oren is also author of the book Say What You Mean: A Mindful Approach to Nonviolent Communication, a practical guidebook for having more effective, satisfying conversations.

Oren first became interested in contemplative practice in high school, when he picked up a little book called The Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff. He went on to complete a degree in Comparative Religion from Columbia University, and later spent two and a half years of living as an Anagarika (renunciate) at branch monasteries in the Ajahn Chah Thai Forest lineage. Today, his teaching combines classical Buddhist training with the accessible language of secular mindfulness.

Marc L Caron

Marc is an agent of transformation, passionate about life, and inspiring and helping others to live the life they desire. After a life altering awakening experience in 2007, and a disappointing end to a 22 year “corporate type” career, it was time to be free to devote himself in service of others.  With his passion for seeking to understand “why we do what we do”, he immersed himself in reading, training and studying with some of the world’s best in the areas of personal growth and transformation, relationships/sacred sexuality, health, spirituality, and leadership. As part of the Tony Robbins Event Senior Leadership team, he enjoys spending his time helping others transform their lives.

As a Conscious Event Organizer, Marc finds himself in the middle of the psychedelic renaissance, where he organizes and co-produces the “Spirit Plant Medicine Conference”, now in its 9th year. This conference is one of the most internationally recognized events of its kind, bringing in experts to share about the healing, awakening and consciousness expanding potential of ancient plant medicines/teachers.

If there is one thing he has learned on his journey of transformation, it is how to enjoy the ride. Integrating our experiences and mastering our inner peace is essential to allow us all to live a more joyous, fulfilled, blissful life!
