In an aging society, and one in which healthcare programs are eating up ever larger segments of the fiscal pie, alternatives to traditional care are badly needed. Teaching individuals to take some responsibility for their own health, and reduce the stresses that can challenge it, would be a boon of significant proportions.  Agneta Dyck’s new book does just that, and may be just what the doctor ordered for us as individuals and as a culture.

“Why I Cancelled My Health Insurance,”
was launched a few months ago at the Vancouver Public Library and has been making waves ever since. In it, the author describes how she brought herself back from a state of disease and depression to a point of confident health and happiness.  So much so that, when she decided to move from Canada and take up residence in another country for a few years, she realized she no longer needed medical insurance.

But the book is not a memoir. Instead, it is a potent and detailed guide that empowers readers to take care of their own healthUsing a formula called the 3 Rs, they learn, step by step, how to identify the stressors that cause ailments and the ways they can eliminate them to heal and even prevent illness. The author promises not only a healthier body, but also a happier state and even a reversal of aging!

It’s a simple methodology and it clearly works. Here is what early readers say:

A lot of your recommendations I have come across in various shapes and forms in similar types of books, but what is special about yours is the huge amount of specific ‘how to’ suggestions and tools, rather than the somewhat airy-fairy advice that doesn’t answer questions such as “Yes, but where and how do I start, and what exactly should I do?”

I have finished your book and am re-reading it, starting tonight. I found it to be very helpful and insightful. I am still struggling… with the end of a very deep relationship… but, with the help of some of your ideas and suggestions, am moving to a more positive place… Thank you so much. The book really is a treasure for me. It is so well written and chock full of helpful ideas.
